Exploring Senses and BlockBuilders: Innovating Creativity Through Digital and Physical Collaboration
Exploring Senses and BlockBuilders first joined forces at the Brighton Mini Maker Faire in 2014, driven by a shared vision of empowering young voices through creative and interactive projects. Founded by Megan and Joe, BlockBuilders gained recognition for their innovative Minecraft regeneration projects, which perfectly complemented the ethos of Exploring Senses.
A Collaborative Journey: From the "Young Inventors Centre" to "People Place Digital Mutations"
Over the years, this partnership has flourished, particularly through the development of the "Young Inventors Centre," a digital maker space located at Brighton Youth Centre (BYC). The centre has been a hub of creativity and innovation, offering young people a platform to explore and express their ideas using cutting-edge digital tools.
Building on this success, our latest collaboration, "People Place Digital Mutations," takes our shared mission to the next level. This project blends traditional handcrafted techniques with modern digital tools, creating a fusion of physical and digital art that tells new stories about the relationship between people and their environments.
Innovative Techniques: Combining Craftsmanship with Technology
"People Place Digital Mutations" explores the intersection of the physical and digital worlds, utilizing an array of tools and techniques to push the boundaries of creative expression. Key technologies include:
-
3D Scanning: Capturing physical objects and transforming them into digital models.
-
3D Printing: Bringing digital designs to life as tangible objects.
-
Minecraft: Using the popular game as a tool for urban regeneration and creative exploration.
-
Virtual Reality (VR): Providing immersive experiences that blend digital environments with real-world contexts.
This project not only showcases the potential of these technologies but also emphasizes the importance of storytelling and narrative in connecting people to the places they inhabit.
Acknowledgments and Community Support
The success of "People Place Digital Mutations" would not have been possible without the support of various partners and community contributors:
-
Brighton Digital Festival Education Commission 2015: For their support in bringing this innovative project to life.
-
Jubilee Library: For providing a space to exhibit the results of our collaboration.
-
The Wood Store Brighton: For generously donating the wooden pallet display that beautifully showcased the 3D printed artifacts.
